The M E Church announces services on April 26 1925 with Sunday School at 9 00 a m and worship at 10 15 a m led by Walter C Peters. Junior Church welcomes under 14 without a home church. A county Brotherhood program and Boy Scout activity are noted along with Pentecost lead ups and district conference changes May 19 20.
Walter Shepard led a Sunday night Christian Endeavor gathering with Albert Gilbert slated to lead next, signaling ongoing youth outreach activities this week.
A surprise birthday event was held for Mrs Henry Miller with relatives arriving in merry mood. Present were Mr and Mrs T M Fisher and Miss Mary Fisher of Sabina, Mr and Mrs Butch Chaney, Washington D C, Mr and Mrs K T Fisher and son Jack near Wilmington, Mr and Mrs Robert Fisher and daughter Rose Ellen of Lees Creek, and Mr and Mrs Lewis Clement Jr with Charles Homer and Helen near Wilmington.
Warden P B E Thomas of the Ohio Penitentiary announced that work on 1924 automobile license plates will start this week. The enamel on the new tags will be applied by rolling instead of spraying, and the rolling method adds a waving cost but yields a much more uniform finish.
Lestié Stone of near Mount Sterling was seriously injured when a bull and cattle wandered into his yard. He tried to drive them away from his home on horseback, the horse threw him, and the bull attacked, causing a dislocated shoulder, a fractured shoulder bone, and multiple rib fractures.
Dr George W Wire longtime Wilmington physician died at his home Thursday evening. Funeral services were held Saturday at his family residence. He had been ill for months requiring a surgical operation but rallied briefly. He was dean of physicians in the county and active in Clinton County Medical Society the American Medical Society and the B and O Surgical Association. He served on the Clinton County National Bank board and was vice president at his death. He contributed to his country as a World War II examining board member and was a valued community figure known for his polished manner and generous nature.
A head on collision occurred on Highland avenue near the railroad tracks Saturday afternoon between an Oldsmobile and a Ford. Both drivers blamed the other. fault and payment responsibilities remain undetermined. The Oldsmobile sustained heavy damage while the Ford had minor damage. Names reported include Mr Hildebrant and occupants of the Mose Rice residence area.
R K Boggs of Blanchester tops county March records with 198 White Leghorns producing 23.2 eggs per hen. The county project reports monthly averages and lists other flocks in the program and their egg per hen rates, including Sherlock Miars, Mrs Everett Ertel, Mrs C Fisher, Mrs Frank Tullis, Mrs Lewis Bevan, Horace Tevan, Mrs Albert Terrell, Mrs Pertha Archdeacon, Mrs Myra Probasco and more with White Leghorns, Barred Plymouth Rocks and Buff Orpingtons providing 14.8 to 21 eggs per hen.
Officials announce definite dates for Wilmington Chautauqua. Opening program set for July 11 with closing event July 17. Sessions will be held in the College gymnasium as in previous years.
The body of Hallie Drake Payton of Ranger Texas was brought home for burial after a service led by Rev. W C Peters at the Custis home. She was laid to rest at Godsacre with her husband Roll Payton, her mother Mrs Thos Drake of Rockport Illinois, and sister Mrs Reed Hoskins and her niece and nephew of Dallas in attendance.
Friends of Thurman Dusty Miller note his speech at a New York State Bankers Association dinner in Syracuse. The program was radio broadcast as his fifth recent appearance there, with three more planned soon before he returns home for Fort William High School commencement.
Officials from the County and City Health Department investigated two dog bite incidents on Saturday. Three year old Folger Hunt was bitten by a family collie. the dog head was sent to Ohio State University for rabies testing. Seven year old Alexander Morris was bitten by a chained bulldog owned by Homer Campbell. the dog will be observed for signs of rabies. Dr. C. E. Kinzel treats the injured boy.
The April 15 postal rate change adds a two cent service stamp on all parcel post. The extra two cents funds increases in revenue to cover $68 million annually for higher salaries and carriers. Perishables face a 25 cent additional fee as they are treated as first class. Florists and chick concerns must pay this extra.
25 years ago school commencements were set to be chief attractions. C E Dixon and family visited Lynchburg on Sunday. Dr R T Trimble suffers from grip but can sit up. Mr and Mrs C E Kiats er attended a Leesburg lecture last Thursday evening. Misses Vesta Naomi Mathews and Jessie Duncan were in Wilmington Saturday. Edgar W Turner was called to Petersburg last Saturday by his grandmother's death. Mr and Mrs Coffin and daughter Helen visited Mr and Mrs M Leeka Sunday. Messrs G McNeffner and Chas Raysurn enjoyed a trip to Sabina in a rubber tired vehicle. Suggy notes this is not only a news item but also a rubber joke. His son Jack is likewise ill with grip. Elisha Powell born October 8 1842 aged 82 years 5 months 8 days lived in Clinton County except seven years in Missouri. He married Mary Emily Hoskins March 9 1865 and had four children three at home. He valued home life, taught morals, cared for education and health, and left a lasting memory of kindness and upright living.
Edward Woodbury son of James Wr. and Salinda was born near New Vienna on October 5, ISA. He was the eldest of five children and all his parents and siblings preceded him in death. He married Elizabeth Johnson and they had seven children, two of whom died in infancy, leaving nine survivors: Mrs C. M. Thrift of Dayton, Burch M. of Wilmington, Leonard M. of Cincinnati, Mrs Clyde Curtis, Mrs Edwin Walker, Mrs Albert Hawk, Gerald, Donald, and Charles of the local area.

Mrs Laura B Haynie wife of George Haynie dies at home Tuesday night after a brief illness. She was nearly 71 and had lived in New Vienna two months after moving from New Antioch. She previously lived in Wilmington and New Antioch. A member of the Christian church in Wilmington she leaves two children James Haynie of New Vienna and Mrs Fred Hook of Wayton plus many grandchildren. Funeral Friday morning at home with Rev Snyder of New Antioch and burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery Wilmington.
Mack Smith died at his home Monday afternoon after years battling cancer. He and his life partner lived in the community for nearly thirty years. Surviving children include Lucy, Leda, Edna of New Vienna Bert of Careytown, and Charles, Pearl of Wilmington. Daughter Idna cared for the parents. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Naylor officiating. burial followed in the local cemetery.
The 10th District of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association held its regular monthly meeting in Blanchester last Monday night. Attendance exceeded fifty members and their wives at the banquet. After business, the Shriners from Cincinnati entertained, with the next meeting planned for Hillboro on the third Monday in May.
Last Friday at the hall lot the local high school beat Highland High in a 13 to 12 thriller. Highland appeared to secure the win until the end when our team rallied with eight runs and loosened defense, nearly widening the final gap.
