Harriett Hansome of Hydaburg Remembered for Service
Mrs. H T Hansome arrived in Hydaburg on July 30 and quickly won goodwill among natives with her quiet, unobtrusive manner. She ran the store, taught advanced grades from October 1, sold liberty bonds, and helped organize Alaska Day. A severe cold with influenza cut short her productive life. She was buried at Lakeview Cemetery near Volunteer Park in Seattle.

Thanksgiving day eased grief in Hydaburg as residents gathered in the town hall for a community celebration. Mr Haldane delivered a sermon, the choir sang, and a dinner funded by subscription featured coffee, sugar, milk, apples and cookies. Mayor Scowell spoke to hearty applause before a dance.
