A Cumberland Maryland group of Grafton natives held its annual picnic at Rocky Gap State Park on September 12. Wilma Parker and daughter Jean Shafferman led the committee. Attendees included Mae and Jim Bob Lambert with sons, Stutlers, Manges, Harvey, Lawler, Wittman family, Shaffermans, Parker, Grimes, Stilwell, Tucker and others. Prizes went to Minnie Stilwell for oldest attendee, Gary and Helen Grimes for farthest travel, and Jennifer Parker as youngest attendee. Next year’s committee is Richard and Wanda Stutler of Lavale Maryland.

Geoffrey Holder, the Un-Cola Man, opens West Virginia University's 1976-77 Great Artists Series in the Concert Theatre of the Creative Arts Center at 8:15 p.m. on September 16. The Trinidadian Tony winner leads the season with multiple performances scheduled, including Mime Keith Berger November 4–5, Billy Taylor February 1, the National Theatre of the Deaf February 6, and the Red Rodgers Dance Company February 2 to March 2 for master classes and lectures.
