Coal miners fighter released by Fourth Circuit ruling
Bruce Miller, a leader in the coal miners rights movement, is freed after nearly three months of a six month contempt sentence. The appeals court ruled Judge Hall lacked authority to both fine and imprison and treated the case as civil rather than criminal contempt. Police also seek James Cantley for the slaying of Robert Adkins after a tavern confrontation. Adkins was found shot and buried in a shallow grave near Sissonville. Cantley allegedly forced wife Linda to accompany him and held her hostage.
