County priorities push for water filtration plant plan

Simpson Creek dam project seeks local funding help

Federal state officials urge residents and local governments to commit funds to a 5.3 million watershed improvement plan for Simpson Creek a 21 mile West Fork River tributary. Eleven earth fill dams could be built to cut flood damage and improve water quality with local sponsorship and easements. Local leaders warned Congress may limit planning and funding next year.

Downtown Grafton gets new traffic lights system

Belco Company crews began replacing the Junction Bridge and Main Street signals and will add a second light by the Post Office in late May. The $33,000 project funded by the State Department of Highways will mostly run in evenings. lanes may narrow temporarily. Also, city police seek three youths who stole a 1977 Pontiac Firebird from Kale Motors, causing a crash on Rt. 119 and a break in at Dr. Tampoya's office.
