Violence erupts at Utah coal mine as UMW strike widens

Violence broke out on a nonunion line in Wattis Utah as the United Mine Workers strike entered its second day. Sheriff riot squads intervened at the Plateau Mine to calm tensions after clashes on the picket line. Earlier, tires were slashed on a bus carrying nonunion miners and four Maryland coal firms shut to dodge unrest linked to West Virginia and Pennsylvania protests.

Financial aid night at GHS in Grafton tonight

A College Financial Aid night for Grafton High students and parents will be held at the high school today starting at 7:30 p.m. In downtown Grafton, the special citizens advisory committee on downtown renovation will meet at City Hall at 7:30 p.m., open to the public.

15 CENTS Grafton man recalls Pearl Harbor story

Harold Fawcett a retired Grafton resident and former Navy photographer recalls December 7 1941 Pearl Harbor. He photographed the attack from Ford Island and saved shots despite restrictions earning honors in the Pacific campaign. He later worked for Sears and stays active in the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.
