Snow and wind persist in Grafton and vicinity with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Temperatures drop to teens tonight and rise to the 20s by Wednesday. Morning temperature at 8 am was 28 degrees. Dam water level stands at 35.59 feet above normal winter pool.
The United Mine Workers start their 10th nationwide strike in 35 years at midnight with no contract. UMW President Arnold Miller left negotiations in Washington and returns to coalfields vowing to resume talks only after real progress. He accuses the Bituminous Coal Operators Association of trying to fracture the union as sessions are set to resume. In West Virginia, strikers plan Sunday gatherings to cripple non union mines and disrupt coal barge traffic.
A massive winter storm hit the upper U.S. with snow wind and ice from the Pacific Northwest to New England. Widespread warnings, tornadoes in the South, and record highs were reported as miners in West Virginia threaten a long strike and Wyoming locals approve raises in new contracts.
Police in Hamburg New York pursue clues in the November 21 killing of Renee Bahleda a 33 year old art teacher and mother of two. Detectives call the homicide meticulously planned with no clues found and no weapon recovered.
County officials met with Regional Planning and Development Council representatives to review Rural Public Transportation scheduling in Grafton. They discussed bus loops, a Main Street stop, and public understanding, while delaying decisions on heating bids, a sheriff vehicle, and HUD housing water assurances until December 13.
The Down Home Food Co-op of about 30 families opens a store at the U.S. 50 250 intersection in Pruntytown offering natural and organically grown items six days a week with member discounts and off the street pricing for others. Members run the operation, order weekly bulk produce, and plan future classes, newsletters, a cookbook, gourmet dinners, and music jam sessions while seeking local suppliers and artists.
