New Suit Opens Equity Challenge to Rail Ownership

The Massachusetts attorney general filed a bill in equity challenging the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad’s holding of 110,000 Boston and Maine shares. The action raises interstate questions, contrasts with the Keaton and Maine case, and could reach the United States Supreme Court if affirmed. The matter involves Connecticut corporation New England Navigation and touches on state and federal law, potentially reshaping regulatory limits on rail stock ownership.
