Union members vote today on the Anaconda Copper contract with United Steelworkers Local 1 and East Helena Local 72. Olsen seeks fifth term in Montana Congress race

Rep. Arnold Olsen of Montana announced his candidacy for a fifth term in the Western District. He cited highway, model cities and dam projects as achievements in eight years. Possible opposition includes Harriet Miller for the Democratic nomination and Republicans Dick Smiley and Wayne Montgomery. Smiley previously lost to Olsen in 1966.

Juvenile blamed in safe cracking at school

Sheriff Ken Cunningham said two weekend burglaries were solved with detention of a 15 year old boy. Investigation by Under Sheriff John McEnaney Deputy Ed Maguire and Probation Officer John T. Sheehan. Deer Lodge County officers helped. Loot from March 22 burglary largely recovered. a later break in attempted arson with a propane torch yielded no obvious theft.

Viet Cong shell U.S. helicopter base and bases in Vietnam

Viet Cong shelled a major U.S. helicopter base at Camp Holloway and five allied infantry bases Friday into Saturday. Reports say substantial helicopter damage with light casualties. Air operations continued with Phantoms and F111s, while Hanoi claimed a downed F111 near the Laotian border though U.S. officials questioned that claim.

The Defense Department announced Army Spec. 4 Larry E. Barber of Shelby Montana was killed in action in Vietnam. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard C. Barger of 575 7th Ave. in Shelby.

Tech open house features mining contests and exhibits

Montana Tech opens Engineering Days with a mucking contest at 11 a.m. and a gold panning exhibit alongside displays from liberal arts and sciences. Spanish war veteran John L. DeCorey dies at 92

John L. DeCorey, 92, of 219 Walnut, a veteran of the Spanish American War, the Boxer Rebellion and World War I, died Friday in a local hospital. He was born October 29, 1875 in Lander Wyoming. Last rites Monday at 2 in Sayatovic White Funeral Home with burial in the Spanish American Veterans Plot at Mount Moriah Cemetery. DeCorey served in the Navy during the 1898 Spanish American War.

Warm Springs State Hospital dedicates new 350000 unit
