Car Demolished in Butte Wreck

A large crowd gathered Friday night to view a wreck on Continental Drive. Deputies said the car flipped and landed on its top as it traveled toward Butte. Juan Lopez of 350 E Galena identified the vehicle and provided details.

Drowning Search Continues For Boy in Glacier Lake

A 21 year old diver Thomas Dumay of Columbia Falls drowned at Lake McDonald while searching for six year old Gregory Trenor’s body. Ron Koppang suffered the bends and was treated in Idaho before divers abandoned the search. Park officials suspended diving then resumed with heavier gear as authorities wait for the boy to surface naturally.

Mostly cloudy with scattered showers today and tonight in east areas. West of Divide sees showers and a few thunderstorms Saturday into Saturday night. Sunday turns partly cloudy with possible showers and cooler conditions. Temperature ranges vary by zone with highs 60s to mid 80s and lows 38 to 55.

Yellowtail Dam Work Resumes After Picket Line Lifts

Construction at the Yellowtail Dam site resumed Friday after pipefitters lifted picket lines under orders from their international headquarters. Sheldon Olson of the Billings local said the jurisdictional dispute is not solved but no further picketing is expected. An international representative was en route to Billings to aid settlement. The pipefitters accused the company of misassigning piping work to other crafts. regular and graveyard shifts reported, while further work depended on the pipefitters’ actions.

Council Postpones Meetings for Week

Mayor Vern Griffith announced Friday the City Council sessions next Monday and Wednesday have been postponed to Monday July 8 and Wednesday July 10. The Monday meeting resumes the last regular meeting which ended in a recess.

Firemen Save Scores From Brazil Blaze

Rio de Janeiro fire officials battled a 21 story blaze at the Astoria Building injuring more than 20 firefighters and killing at least seven. Firemen saved scores of office workers with rope rescues as flames fed by scarce water forced use of sea water for suppression.

Kennedy urges freedom as Iron Curtain to follow Irish example

President Kennedy told Ireland’s parliament to follow the Irish in never surrendering for freedom. He spoke after visiting Cork where crowds pressured him. Kennedy was unhurt and urged calm. He contrasted with Khrushchev’s East Berlin visit as West Berlin greeted Kennedy warmly.

Four Men Injured In Butte Mine Shaft Bucket Accident

A Boland Development Co bucket carrying six men plunged about 40 feet in the Kelley Mine shaft Friday afternoon injuring four. Names include Ivar Stenberg and Pete Ygnatowiz. two other workers escaped unhurt. The elder Ygnatowiz was hospitalized with bruises. others received observation or minor injuries. Cause of the slip was not immediately determined.
