Secretary of State George C. Marshall signed an agreement with the United Nations giving New York City's permanent world peace capital site inviolability akin to a foreign embassy in Washington. The eight minute ceremony in the UN headquarters marked the charter anniversary with key officials in attendance.
Federal court jury finds Eugene Dennis general secretary of the Communist party guilty of contempt of Congress for failing to appear before the House Un American Activities Committee. Bond raised. Dennis released after posttrial actions. Dennis argued the committee illegal and contested his subpoena compliance.
Washington June 26 A plan to cut income taxes by four billion dollars effective January 1 1948 gains support on Capitol Hill. President Truman avoids commitment while senators Tydings and Byrd signal possible backing if conditions improve. House Ways and Means Chairman Knutson reintroduces with Jan 1 date, while Senate Republicans adopt a wait and see stance.
President Truman urged labor and management to comply with the Taft Hartley act and pledged fair administration. He noted 300,000 coal miners idle triggering layoffs in steel and rail industries and said Attorney General Clark is examining the situation. No specific action is planned now.

Assistant U S Attorney sought to remand Mr and Mrs Alfred Ingalls to jail for the trial remainder after witnesses demanded FBI protection from the couple. He cited post trial threats toward government witnesses following testimony about Dora Jones forced labor. Defense claimed the motion unusual as continued on page 9.
Bertha Cote, a 28 year old widow, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Christmas tree slaying of her husband in Plymouth Massachusetts. Judge Felix Forte sentenced her to prison for three and a half to six years, noting provocation and her good qualities. She wept as a photo of her four year old daughter Barbara Ann was shown.
President Truman vetoed a wool price support bill that would curb foreign wool imports but signaled approval for a version without the import restrictions. The explosion rattled Denver area homes twenty miles away, with a towering black smoke plume and a mushroom cloud described as resembling atomic blasts.
Cloudy cooler conditions with showers expected Friday in Butte and statewide west of the divide. Highs 50 to 60 west of the divide and 55 to 70 across the northwest to southeast zones with some showers or storms and breeze.
The partially clad body of Mrs. Jeanette Reyman 30 of Bogart Ga was found in the rear of a parked pickup near Moreland Avenue Atlanta. An autopsy showed skull injuries and investigators believe she was kidnapped bludgeoned during an assault before being placed in the truck. Her brother Charles Van Skyock identified her.
Lemont P. Herrin of Helena faced second degree murder charges in the death of Albert Swede Anderson 38 after a coroner's jury found a beating administered by Herrin. Herrin posted 2500 bond and did not attend the inquest. his wife testified about a report of improper advances toward Anderson’s daughter.
Washington June 26 two Navy spokesmen urged Congress to authorize a 34 million dollar naval test range at Point Mugu California to counter a dangerous lag in guided missile development that could threaten victory in future wars.
Soviet Foreign Minister Molotov arrived in Paris with aides and guards for the planned Big Three talks on George C. Marshall's European recovery plan. He met Georges Bidault briefly at the foreign office before the anticipated France Britain Russia session.
James M Curley mayor of Boston arrived at Danbury Connecticut to begin a 6 18 month federal term for mail fraud He called the punishment a death sentence and was transported by auto from Bridgeport after leaving a train from Washington D C En route to the federal correctional institution
Boston Mayor James M. Curley, 72, pleads ill health in court as he is ordered to begin serving a six to eighteen month sentence. He is sent by train to Danbury Federal Correctional Institution in Connecticut. Judge James M. Proctor rejects suspending the sentence and remarks on Curley's health issues. Curley vows to appeal for clemency to President Truman, who has not decided action.
A Senate House committee agreed on a compromise to extend the Reconstruction Finance Corporation for one year beyond June 30. The plan retains the House bill’s loan restrictions, including a ban on foreign loans. The extension runs to June 30, 1948, with efforts for final approval by Friday or Monday. the current authorization expires at midnight Monday.
