Great Falls approves 3 year contract with Anaconda company
The Great Falls Smeltermen's Union voted 519 to 215 to accept a three year contract with The Anaconda Company providing wage increases totaling 27 cents per hour plus a new pension plan, health and welfare, vacation, and holidays. The Butte and Great Falls votes follow a month of negotiations with the joint committee of the International Union of Mine Mill and Smelter Workers. The pact, effective July 1, 1957, raises hourly pay in steps, expands pension benefits to $2.25 per month per year of service, adds two weeks vacation with pay, one extra birthday holiday, and raises health and welfare contributions by about $2.76 monthly per worker.
