Washington fiscal year end approaching reveals a deficit of 3.84 billion dollars and a public debt of 26.99 billion. Receipts total 3.06 billion, boosted by internal revenue, while emergency expenditures rise to 3.84 billion, largely funding Reconstruction programs.
The heavy cruiser Houston, fully equipped with fishing gear, a mystery library, and 41 full-length films, departs Brooklyn Navy Yard for Annapolis to take President Roosevelt on his Hawaiian cruise. The ship features a lux admiral’s suite, sea kitchen, and a pool with quick rigging. Roosevelt has not read the mystery books on board.
In Los Angeles on June 25 a motion for a new trial for Nellie Madison, a former Montana woman convicted of murdering her husband Eric Madison, a film studio employee, will be argued tomorrow. Attorneys Joseph and Frank Ryan said the move likely postpones the mandatory death sentence and that arguments may follow before a verdict on the motion.
Butte received heavy rain and a 24 hour precipitation of 0.3 inches followed by a stronger storm at 10 PM. A near cloudburst lashed the city for about 45 minutes with lightning thunder and hail. Streets flooded traffic halted and minor damage reported.
Six Marine Corps Reserve planes will visit Butte for a three day aerial demonstration. The two seated Curtiss-Wright Hell Divers will fly in formation over the city from Seattle to educate residents on intricate aerial tactics. Pilots include First Lieut Joseph Adams Commanding, First Lieut Richard Mangrum, and Second Lieuts Elliott Bard Jack Cram Raymond Hurst and Carl Nelson. The visit includes a Chamber of Commerce dinner and additional entertainment.
A consultation between state and local labor leaders and Washington labor representatives was held at the New Finlen in Butte. James Graham of the Montana Federation of Labor met Paul J. Smith of the AFL and P. W. Chappell of the U S Department of Labor, sent by Secretary Frances Perkins to inquire into the local strike situation. Chappell arrived at noon as a conciliation commissioner. Jacobson, the federal mediator, and Senator Wagner influence the dispatch. Jacobson was to return to Butte soon.
President Roosevelt approved a tentative long range national resources plan with a commission to coordinate federal state and local efforts. He met with officials including Postmaster General Farley who presented a list of at least 150 Democrats identified for jobs in stock market and communications control and housing program roles.
A 240000 voter jury will decide Gov. William Langer's political future in Wednesday primaries ten days after a federal court jury found him guilty of a felony. The outcome may end his political career or affirm voter support as Republican gubernatorial candidate.

He notes cooperative funding, a stable three year plan, and a 50 50 match after July 1 for 1936 and 1937, with $522 million over three years.
Harriman Hosiery in Tennessee shuts its plant after losing the blue eagle amid NRA pressure. About 653 workers are laid off as the firm accuses Gen. Hugh Johnson and the NRA of intent to wreck operations. The mill removed the blue eagle following a national labor board ruling on alleged code violations.
A weather notice for Montana calls for probable local thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday with warmer readings in the southwest portion.
William F. Gettle, Beverly Hills oil promoter and recent kidnapping victim, received two extortion notes threatening to destroy his home and harm his wife and children unless $6000 was paid immediately. The notes urge payment for Gettle’s federal court testimony against two women, Loretta Woody and Mona Gallighen, in a conspiracy case.
Two Helena Building Trades unions passed resolutions urging James Graham to withdraw an injunction he and the Montana Federation of Labor filed to stop the Helena school board from awarding a contract for a new high school. The PWA project includes a $510,000 loan and grant. bids were returned for revision and new bids due July 3.
