Montana to train 48 miners with $175000 federal grant
Gov. Thomas L. Judge announced Montana will use $175,000 in federal funds to train at least 48 people as underground miners in Butte. The program, administered by the Employment Security Division under MDTA, includes an eight week classroom phase with a $46 weekly base allowance and on the job pay of $37.17 per day. Judge noted 341 MDTA trained miners have moved to full time work and some contract miners earned up to $26,000 last year.
