Hollywood stars and industry figures gathered in Glendale for a simple 20 minute funeral for Jean Harlow. Family including her mother Mrs. Jean Bello and actor William Powell showed obvious grief as Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Warner Baxter, Ronald Colman, and Spencer Tracy attended the service. The body will rest in a receiving vault near the chapel.
Atlantic City June 3 The house of delegates of the American Medical association rejected a New York state delegation proposal to obtain government funds for medical care of the poor. They adopted a substitute with an enabling act authorizing organized medical bodies to cooperate with the government on medical problems.
Representative Snell announced plans for a congressional investigation into the Democratic national committee selling autographed campaign books by President Roosevelt. He cited a $250 per copy price to corporations and a $1,000 contract noted on a committee letterhead. Stephen Early said the contract was drawn by ex-treasurer Forbes Morgan and signed blank sheets to be autographed for sale.
Gloria Swanson arrives in Southern California to begin a new motion picture project after a two and a half year hiatus. Producer and writer Francis Marion will lead the production. Swanson had been visiting England prior to returning.
Unsettled conditions persist across Montana and Wyoming with local thunder showers expected Thursday and Friday. Temperatures show little variation as the forecast calls for scattered storms and mild warmth in the plains and mountains.
Moscow report says Sigmund Levanevsky, famed Soviet aviator, is ready for a non stop Moscow to San Francisco flight via the North Pole. He arrived at Sebastopol after a flight from Moscow at about 135 mph in a plane designed for the northern sea route.
Soviet Union shakes western frontier garrisons from Leningrad to the Persian border and denounces eight industrial executives in far eastern Siberia as Trotskyists. The moves signal intensified purges tied to treason charges as Moscow braces for possible German and Japanese threats.
Butte children resume their Thursday outing at Columbia Gardens in summer vacation program managed with the Butte Electric Railway. Free streetcar rides to the venue and back are offered with supervised games and play devices under instructors.
Wilmington Delaware June 9 The Duponts wedding to Franklin Delano Roosevelt will be tightly controlled with state police secret service and a corps of social secretaries screening entrants to the church and the house. Only engraved invitations will admit guests and the church road will be closed a mile away to nonresidents. A gatekeeping system at the door will be mirrored by house staff to prevent unauthorized admission and jewel theft.
Two tornadoes swept across central Oklahoma causing one death and multiple injuries. An Army blimp at the city airport was damaged, and farm homes along two wide paths were wrecked, with hundreds of acres of wheat ruined. The fatality occurred near Union City when Mrs. Fannie Thornton died in a collapsed farm house.

Major Clarence Hodge and Lt Joseph L McNeil, Boston flyers missing since leaving Reno, arrived in Ely after bailing out of their aircraft in a fierce electrical storm. Hodge sprained an ankle on landing. they came down at about 12 000 feet amid strong winds and dwindling fuel, ending near the crash site.
The joint Weather Bureau report says weekly rains improved prospects for crops in southern Montana and allowed late seed planting, but cooler temperatures slowed growth in the north and east. Snow fell at higher elevations, Red Lodge saw eight inches, and drought areas continue to face soil blowing and livestock strains as irrigation yields vary.
