Salt Lake City June 8. Natural barriers again delayed the search for victims of a skyliner crash six months ago. Half the fuselage and one wing were visible from a crag 200 feet below the scene. Deeper access may take days as rescuers plan an attempt to reach the rocky ridge where a shinbone and shoe were found.
In Madrid police raided the apartment of a former German resident now in Paris and seized documents linking a spy network and propaganda setup to spread Fascist messages in Spain. Two Spaniards were arrested as heavy battles and rain disrupted operations around Bilbao and Pozoblanco.
Bozeman prepares for All Montana Day July 2 with a morning parade featuring six to eight bands. Governor Roy Ayers and state officials will attend with visitors from every city and town expected. A patrol by the State Highway Patrol and afternoon events at the State College campus include speeches and picnics.
General bids for next year supplies and coal removal were opened at the trustees meeting. The county attorney proposed clean up work near the new Butte high school, trustees to cooperate but not act as investigators. Miss Lillian Gwynne’s resignation was accepted. she had been a first grade teacher on leave from Whittier school.

Plans for Air Mail Week in Montana announced by Postmaster Frank X. Monaghan set July 5 to 10. Officials urge residents to invite friends from neighboring states to visit Butte and the state, as 10 000 copper cadets will be attached to air mail letters upon request at the post office before flight.
Cornelius F. Kelley, president of Anaconda Copper Mining, reports European copper consumption at record levels after a three week abroad trip. He sees no government hoarding, says much demand goes to plant expansion and rehabilitation, and believes armament buying is now smaller. Domestic price steady at 14 cents. export market weak at 14.16 cents.
A Montana forecast shows Wednesday and Thursday with partly cloudy skies and little change in temperatures. Little wind is expected and highs remain mild across the region.
Shower activity spread moisture to expanding crops in parts of Montana while drought persisted in the north from Hill county to the North Dakota line. The weather bureau logged 24 hour rainfall in Kalispell, Great Falls, Helena, Cut Bank, Lewistown, Billings and Bozeman, with Bozeman receiving the heaviest at 0.30 inch. Rain was also reported unofficially in the Bitter Root valley near Hamilton. In Powder River country and southern Custer county ranchers fear little may be done to curb the Mor.
Indications of a possible break in the steel strike stalemate emerged as Gov. Martin I. Davey might issue a statement. Eastern cities faced labor disturbances with 15 000 workers involved. The stockyards at East St Louis and plants in Detroit closed as strikes spread while federal bodies were urged to act.
American scientists encamped on a coral island in the mid Pacific captured a rare photographic record of a total solar eclipse at Canton Island. The three minute and 23 second totality ended at 12 10 p m mountain standard time. Dr John Oliver La Gorece praised the record as a significant scientific milestone awaited by astronomers worldwide.
Frank Gaynor died at a local hospital after a Monday morning shooting in Twin Bridges. Harry Graves, a former Butteman, was wounded in the chest and arm. The incident reportedly arose from a card game quarrel. a coroner’s inquest is expected to be held, with Madison County Attorney Robert H. Allen awaiting its outcome. Graves rested easily in a Butte hotel.
William D. Doonan was elected grand knight of Butte council No 668 Knights of Columbus at a meeting last night. He succeeds Arthur Berry, who has held the office two years. William Reeme was elected deputy grand knight. They will take office in July.
Sunburst June 8 The Independent Refinery Workers association voted 88 to 6 against affiliating with the C I O. R B Ervin secretary said the union made the decision tonight after a closed meeting.
Berlin reports the Nazi press calls on Germans to decide between Adolf Hitler and a church government. In Cologne the Westdeutscher Beobachter editorial urges obedience to the Nazi regime, while Koblenz records Catholic trials for immorality with monks and lay brothers sentenced.
In Salt Lake City on June 8 two men assisting in the recovery from the Western Air Express crash were hurt. Raymond Walters CCC enrollees was seriously injured by a falling rock while digging in snowbanks for wreckage. Rex Moyle Western Air guide was struck by lightning and remained on the canyon trail overnight.
Val Hicks of the Civilian Conservation Corps said a camp will be built on the ridge to recover bodies and wreckage from the cliff site near Alpine Utah. Planes will drop tents food and tools as crews work to hoist remains to the cliff brow and haul them by packhorse to Alpine, with recovery expected in six to eight weeks.
U S Judge Robert A. Cooper escaped injury after 12 to 15 shots were fired at him in San Juan Puerto Rico The judge had previously sentenced eight Puerto Rican Nationalists to prison terms for conspiring to overthrow the U S government Among those sentenced was Pedro Albizu Campos president of the Nationalist party and a former Harvard student who received a 10 year term.
President Roosevelt proposed federal support totaling 170 million dollars for a 95 ship merchant fleet and immediate construction subsidies of 10 million dollars. He urged Congress to authorize 150 million in next year ship contracts while maritime commission chair Joseph J. Kennedy explained the program after the announcement. The White House and lawmakers rejected several Black Connery labor standards amendments and the president questioned banning interstate shipments of monopolized goods.
Hollywood celebrities who knew Jean Harlow will attend her simple funeral services on Wednesday. Mrs Jean Belle, the star’s mother, announced the rites after Harlow’s sudden death. Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald will sing her favorites, with Clark Gable among the attendees.
May installments of the 1936-37 tax assessments boosted county funds, with the general fund at 113,689.56 and total county balances reaching 281,128.11 at month start. Other fund balances included Poor 49,270.71, road 7,948.86, bridge 1,176.02, bond sinking 46,077.73, bond interest 12,459.27, protested taxes 566.45, motor vehicle 46,919.85, and county free library 3,019.66. Total expenditures of the county were pending.
