Seven unmasked highwaymen halted a westbound Pickwick Greyhound bus nine miles east of Shamrock early today and robbed 18 passengers of 668 dollars in cash and 273 dollars in jewelry. The robbers used a 13 mile detour from U S Highway 66 with five in two cars and two aboard the bus. The heist occurred around 2 30 this morning.
More than 30,000 residents from Butte and surrounding areas packed Ryan airport to welcome 56 Army pursuit aircraft on a stopover en route to Sacramento and San Diego. Spectators began gathering hours earlier as groups from Great Falls and Billings approached, filling every parking spot.
Torrential rains aided hundreds of fire fighters who battled a waterfront blaze in Norfolk and nearby areas. A thousand Marines and sailors joined city crews as 10 blocks burned and seven more were threatened. One fire captain was hospitalized after a dispute with teammates. Nineteen other firemen were treated for smoke and chemical exposure. Damage exceeds three million dollars.

Mrs Jeannie Tower widow of Edgar M. Tower longtime Butte resident and Civil War veteran widow died at her home 653 South Dakota street after ill health. Born in Scotland November 15 1851 she came to the United States at age four and married Edgar M. Tower in Livingston in 1885. She leaves three sons Hugh V Tower Ray E Tower Wynne A Tower and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the White Chapel with burial at Mount Moriah cemetery.
The National Law Observance and Enforcement Commission condemned Senate interference in federal district attorney appointments. In a report to President Hoover, the Wickersham group warned treating the office as a reward for political activity harms law enforcement and office conduct.
A quiet, unassuming small man among Butte’s army flyers yesterday drew little notice as his craft led the group. Nearly 40 and gray headed he arrived first at the airport and departed ahead of the other squadrons after a brief chat with the commander Major.
Babe Gill of Red Top Cab was held at gunpoint, bound, and robbed of $3.10 after picking up two men from Mudro's Grill. They directed the ride to Boulevard addition, then fled. Gill freed himself and alerted sheriff. Police have descriptions of the suspects.

Washington June 7 The physicians bureau for the boys and girls urges a gradual tan as summer health care. Advice covers clean screened vacation homes, typhoid precautions, boiling unknown water, 3-4 glasses daily, avoid raw milk, boil pasteurized milk if needed, avoid dusty street foods, eat leafy greens and ripe fruit, and ensure 5-6 hours outdoors daily. Children under six need a midday rest of 1-2 hours.

A group of 24 Wallace residents from Idaho traveled to Butte yesterday to witness a large squadron of army planes. They drove over the mountains, reaching Butte quickly, and returned after the planes departed. The visitors expressed interest in Butte as a potential air center of the West.
German and English foreign ministers and premiers concluded a two day conference at Ramsay MacDonald’s residence in Chequers Buckinghamshire agreeing to work closely to address the present crisis. They discussed the world economic situation with frankness and openness.
London reports a strong early morning earthquake felt across England, France, Norway, Belgium, with tremors lasting five to seven minutes. Seismologist J. J. Shaw notes it as one of England's severest shocks, with noises and storm-related precursors reported in some areas. Continued on Page 2.
