Annual Montana Vocational Association conference opens in Butte

The 22nd annual Montana Vocational Association meets at the Vo-tech center in Butte with about 320 educators from across the state. President Ensrud proposes a reorganization including work program, constitution changes, financing and legislation ahead of discussions ending Tuesday. Mayor Micone Supt. Davis and Ben Ulmer will speak, with LeRoy Swensen slated for a banquet at the Ramada Inn.

Airliner and Navy jet collide near Los Angeles

A DC9 airliner carrying 48 persons and a Navy F4 Phantom collided with thick fog and crashed in a rugged mountain gorge about 20 miles east of Los Angeles. Firemen reported no survivors at the site and nine bodies were found around the burning airliner while rescue crews prepared to return Monday morning. One radar officer aboard the fighter jet ejected safely.
