Downed bomber reports spark Glasgow search and flood impacts

Air Force officials planned a Thursday morning search for a supposed four engine bomber near Glasgow after reports at 7:30 p.m. a helicopter and emergency units scouted the area 20 miles northwest. A storm halted the operation, power failures swamped streets, and flooding blocked U.S. Highway 2 underpasses while officials checked bases in the Northwest.

Butte Approves Zoning Law Requiring Public Hearing

Butte approves a comprehensive zoning ordinance to divide the city into districts and regulate building size use and parking. A public hearing within 15 days will determine its effective date as officials appoint a five member board of adjustment with three year terms and penalties range from 25 to 300 dollars or up to 90 days in jail per violation.

Knowles Dam Could Flood Two Indian Power Sites

Engineers told the House Flood Control Subcommittee that building the Knowles Dam would submerge two Flathead Indian Reservation power sites valued at about 116.5 million dollars. Ivan Bloch said the Buffalo Rapids No 2 and 4 sites could generate roughly 4.65 million dollars annually, potentially supporting an aluminum plant or a pulp mill and up to 1,000 new jobs in Montana. He noted no firm had been approached to buy power, pending the Knowles project decision.

Kennedy views White Sands missiles during Western swing

President Kennedy paused his West Coast schedule to inspect White Sands missile range in New Mexico after announcing a joint public-private push to develop a supersonic jetliner.
