Baby Found Abandoned In Park Raised At City Hospital

In San Francisco a baby boy found abandoned in a city park was saved by nurse Therese Garcia at San Francisco General Hospital. The infant, about two hours old, was healthy after Mrs. Frank Hubinsky noticed a woman carry a suitcase into the park and later return empty handed. Mrs. Hubinsky cut the umbilical cord and took the newborn to a hospital.

GOP Won't Take Stand on Montana Sales Tax at Convention

At the Helena GOP officers convention Republicans avoided endorsing the sales tax. Gov. Tim Babcock and two legislators urged support for a broader tax base to fund education and reform. House Speaker Felt and Rep. Cox urged broad tax base but favored no outright endorsement. Lt. Gov. James said he remains in the party and may run for governor. delegates were urged to study the platform and mobilize voters.

Rioting Clashes Erupt in Grove Hall Boston

A Boston fireman Lt. Joseph Donovan was shot in the wrist night raids followed a wave of rioting in Grove Hall Square. Police reported a sniper on a rooftop fired as crews responded to false alarms amid looting and window smashing.

Anaconda Alum Elected Montana Tech President 1967-68

Anaconda man George T. Hanson was elected president of the Montana Tech Alumni Association for 1967-68 at the annual meeting and banquet held in the Prudential Auditorium. Rayworth Howe was reelected secretary treasurer, with Floyd Bossard Pete DuToit Frank Antonioli and Robert Corbett named as officers. Corbett, outgoing president, served as master of ceremonies as Class of 1967 guests attended. Jeremiah Murphy, 1948 alumnus and manager of Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. in New Orleans, gave an address.

Butte Rodeo Promises Hot Competition July 6-8

Butte Vigilante and Rodeo Club announces a premier annual rodeo for July 6 through 8 with top rodeo cowboys and stock from Big Bend Rodeo Co of Davenport Washington. Shawn Davis of Whitehall, ranked high in all around standings, is among saddle bronc contestants. Davis recently posted $10,381 in earnings this year and had a 1965 money record for saddle bronc riding of $25,599. Continued on page 12.

Air crash kills 88 near Perpignan in Pyrenees

An Air Ferry DC6 charter carrying 88 passengers and crew crashed high on Mont Canigou near Perpignan France. Authorities say there were no survivors and the aircraft broke in two and burst into flames during approach to the airport. The accident site is in a region nicknamed the accursed triangle due to repeated crashes.

Twelve Butte Scouts Begin 158-Mile Missouri Canoe Journey

Twelve Butte Explorer Scouts and two adult leaders depart for Fort Benton to start a seven day canoe trip down the Missouri to Fort Peck Lake head. Led by Jim Logan and R D Piper, they will stay overnight in Fort Benton and launch six canoes early Monday with a loaned power rescue boat. All 12 are accomplished swimmers. sponsors are United Congregational Church.

Israel insists on three demands before peace in Middle East

Israel pressed the Soviet Union to secure three conditions for peace including recognition of Israel's territorial integrity and status quo, lifting the Gulf of Aqaba blockade, and non interference. Premier Eshkol delivered the note to Kosygin via the Tel Aviv embassy as Dayan warned war could occur without foreign troops.

Coed to receive engineering science degree at Montana Tech

Jan Thurston daughter of Mr and Mrs George W Thurston will graduate today, becoming the first woman to earn a bachelor of science in engineering science at Montana Tech. She will join Douglas United Nuclear in Richland Washington for graduate training on nuclear reactors.
