Ronald Michael Padelford three died on a Jefferson County public road when he reportedly opened a car door and fell from a moving station wagon near Delmo Lake in the mountains east of Butte. Police said an autopsy would check for wheel impact. The boy, born 1953 in Columbus Georgia, was with Sgt. Padelford and siblings on a Sunday ride as investigators noted the eighth highway fatality in the county this year and the May total rose to 22 statewide. The body rests at Richards Funeral Home.
Russ Pierce 23, a Geraldine crop duster, was killed when his single engine plane crashed and burned about 18 miles northeast of Geraldine Saturday night. Owner Thomas Herrod said Pierce appeared to stall and pull out before the crash. Pierce was not spraying at the time and carried a reduced load. The crash occurred about 9 p m with investigators from Helena on the scene. Pierce is survived by three sisters in California.
Red China hailed Britain's decision to relax the China trade embargo as a setback to the United States policy of aggression. State newspapers after the action noted it would foster East West cooperation and warned Washington could not stop the trend. Norway and Japan weighed effects as Britain lifted bans on about 200 items including locomotives and machine tools.
ENUMCLAW Wash Three people died when a large tree fell across the front of their car as it traveled Chinook Pass about a mile east of Enumclaw The victims were Mr and Mrs Stephen Floe both 58 from Yakima and their daughter Claudette Airline 20 from Seattle The couple’s 10 month old granddaughter was uninjured State patrol attributed the tragedy to a blown over tree with no slide signs The Floes were in Enumclaw National Forest during the incident.
Capt. J W Kittinger Jr, 28, rode a 3 foot by 7 foot capsule in a giant balloon to 96,000 feet over southern Minnesota. He spent about two hours at the peak before valve off and descent, landing near Weaver, Minn. The mission, part of the Holloman Air Development Center program, set a new manned balloon altitude record and momitored by Maj. J W McCurdy.

In Angels Camp California a Gypsy Tour event spurred a riot on Main Street leaving three dead and 23 injured. Jerome Tavares twenty of Santa Clara died Sunday morning. Police and highway patrolimposed roadblocks and jailed 23 riders on drunkenness and resisting arrest charges.

A London subway rider caused a scare by losing a two foot garden snake aboard a train. Passengers fled to other cars and the next station became the most popular stop. Train service was halted while two inspectors removed and killed the reptile.
US safety officials report Memorial Day travel fatalities near the normal four day period. By Sunday night the toll reached 370 with 122 drownings and 100 other holiday related deaths. State tallies list Alabama to Wyoming, showing wide dispersion of 370 total deaths for the holiday period.
A rain slick head on crash on a highway near Haskell Texas killed five people. Victims include Donald Ray Wilson and his wife both 22, their daughter Debra Ann 2 and son Mike 7 months, plus Thomas Roy Paulhamus 26. Paulhamus and a woman believed to be his wife were critically injured. Their daughter Karen Sue 4 had a leg fracture.
The Mayflower II continued its voyage from Plymouth England to Plymouth Massachusetts at five knots under fair wind. It radioed a location 500 miles south of Bermuda after departing Britain on April 20.
