Wine files bid for Montana attorney general nomination
Helena mayor Ray Wine Jr. filed Wednesday to seek the Democratic nomination for Montana attorney general. He faces Arnold Olsen of Butte and Assistant Attorney General Clarence Hanley in the July 20 primary. Wine, a former AG assistant, cited goals of efficient service, fair handling of matters, and development priorities including education, conservation, agriculture, and roads. Clubfoot Georges Grave Marker Taken by Vandals
Virginia City report that vandals stole an iron grave marker from Clubfoot George Lane’s grave on Boot Hill. The marker was removed with a hacksaw, near the road agent hanged by vigilantes decades ago. The original marker now resides in the Virginia City museum.

Funeral rites for Helmar F. Johnson were conducted at the Latter-day Saint church in Deer Lodge with Elder Harvey Eliason officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest cemetery in the family plot. Landlord Charged in Missoula Rent Cases
MISSOULA June 2 William Mercer local landlord was charged in two complaints in justice court with violation of federal rent control regulations. Douglas Drysdale university student and war veteran alleges overcharges of 93.75 and 48.75 over the maximum rent and seeks 146.25 treble damages plus 50 attorney fees. Charles Johnston claims 2.50 excess and seeks that amount plus 50 damages and 50 attorney fees. Justice Ralph L Starr will render decisions Thursday.
