Kiwanis International head Joshua L. Johns will briefly stop in Butte en route to Appleton Wisconsin. Local president James Tullis and Secretary Earle Genzberger will greet him at the Northern Pacific depot with a souvenir.
Paris reports that France seeks tariff retaliation after currency stabilization defeat and blames President Roosevelt for London conference failure. In London, the American delegation pressed to keep monetary talks on the agenda, winning a partial victory but losing another vote.
Hundreds meet in Helena led by Fred F. Willson to back a state plan for public works funds. The group aims to secure fair building industry shares from the 10 million dollar recovery program and to select 56 districts with three reps each to propose projects to the public works administrator.
Huntington editor J H Edwards rigs an electrical bell to deter bears at his campsite in Yellowstone Park. A copper wire coil around his tent delivers a shock when a bear touches it, startling the animal and alerting Edwards. The setup relies on a powered car battery to operate the device.
George Makkela Korbi lay wounded in St. James hospital as County Attorney H. J. Freebourn announced that if he survived he would be charged with the murder of Tom Rogers, 53, in Butte. Rogers was fatally shot on Covert street early Thursday. he died four hours later. Eyewitnesses Monty Witzke and Jean Brown testified Korbi shot after shouting for space.
Dr. T. J. B. Shanley, Montana finance chair, reports a five month drive to fund the national party debt raised 5262.85 dollars, surpassing the 4000 dollar quota. He notes 54 of 56 counties contributed, with 125? over-subscription by counties, and calls the result a testament to Montana loyalty.

Helena July 7 Montana highway officials listed nine state projects with bids due July 27 under the $7 million federal recovery program. The panel will map federal projects to be approved by engineers while noting feeder road limits and county allocations, with August letting to finalize the work.
Atlantic City reports Mayor Harry Bacharach occupying a summer office at an amusement pier. To reach him one passes the pier cashier and ticket taker. His glass office sits between a sideshow and a chimpanzee cage with a large mayor sign on the door. A passerby hung a “Please do not feed” sign under the mayor sign within minutes.
The census bureau warns that abandoning farm horses and mules hurt mood and finances. Z R Pettet urges farmers to focus on raising horses and mules as a viable business amid economic strain. He notes a drop of 6,313,606 horses and mules in ten years and 18 million acres shifted from horse feed to other crops.
Helena July 7 The state health department reports Rocky Mountain spotted fever cases in Montana have decreased materially with the summer heat. Other diseases and communicable illnesses have been at a minimum, the department said today.
President Roosevelt drafted a message outlining U S aims to raise world prices as an immediate objective for the London economic conference. At the White House he met advisers and prepared a position paper while signaling no compromise on currency stabilization policy.
Helena reports the 15 percent processing tax on domestic wheat ing is to take effect tonight at midnight. Internal Revenue Service offices are busy as field deputies prepare instructions and inventory forms for taxpayers across the state. The tax applies to all imports beginning that date for articles arriving from outside the country that are wholly or chiefly from wheat.
A mountain cloudburst sent a ten foot flood down Bear Creek canyon destroying Morrison and Starbuck towns. Four bodies were recovered with reports of missing residents including Mrs Sylvia Soderstrom, 33, and her daughter Eunice, 4. Damages were in the hundreds of thousands as bridges and roads washed away and livestock drowned. Local guards searched Morrison by lantern light as deaths rose and further bodies were reported nearby.
Chicago July 8 British consul Lewis Bernays demanded federal authorities capture John Factor missing speculator. He believes Factor’s disappearance was a hoax to prevent extradition to England. Factor is accused of swindling British investors out of 7000 dollars.
The Herald Tribune reports mining companies expect a favorable Roosevelt decision within days to permit exporting newly mined gold. The move would lift the export embargo and raise metal prices overseas, with mint price at 20.67 and international price quoted around 26 to 30 per ounce. Companies reportedly pledge a 10 percent wage raise if export is allowed.
