President Roosevelt rejects U S membership in the League of Nations and proposes a three point plan for global peace. He calls for elimination of offensive weapons, a non crossing border pledge, and strict international inspections while praising the League's non aggression efforts.
The treasury directed that all gold in the United States be concentrated in the federal reserve banks for delivery to the treasury with minor exceptions. Two theories emerged about the move including reinforcing the prior effort to curb gold holdings, though no official explanation was given.

Mrs Annie Talvite 48 sustained deep neck head and body wounds after her husband John Talvite 49 stabbed her with scissors and fled yelling I finished my wife. She lies in St James hospital with a pierced lung and poor prognosis as Talvite is held at the county hospital after his collapse and admission.

The group aims to preserve small schools against new attendance criteria effective September 1.
The Montana House adopted by 40 to 37 the minority report on the Civil Works Administration in Silver Bow county. Rep Trenne urged delaying action until his report, while the majority faulted the CWA with criticism not supported by hearings. The chamber rejected the majority critique 31 to 53 and then adopted Trenne’s minority report amid debate.
In Helena the dome work shifts from aluminum paint to copper sheathing and proceeds rapidly. Inside the capitol repairs include new wiring and repainting while outside improvements, parking excavation, and rear stone facing repairs advance.
Montana forecast calls for occasional snow on Friday and likely Saturday. Temperatures expected to rise in the north and east on Friday with another warming trend into Saturday for the extreme eastern region.
Last night the New Finlen prepared for a Saturday 1 PM banquet honoring Frank C. Walker. Tickets drew demand from towns across the state with Great Falls Missoula Bozeman Livingston Philipsburg Deer Lodge Anaconda and Dillon contributing reservations. Governor Cooney will speak with the Helena delegation. organizers expect a sold out crowd and urge prompt reservations.
Montana highway commission placed twelve road and bridge projects under contract totaling about 634000 across 11 counties. Projects cover over 60 miles of highway with six bridges and two thirds on secondary roads. Bids for 7.143 miles of the Rowan west secondary road were rejected. state will perform the work by force account. Frank Haas of Harrison was low bidder at 580. A further setting is planned for January 27.
Deputy clerk John Holland announced arrangements for six elections between January 27 and April 7. Scheduled are a special school district bond vote of 800000, primary and general elections in Butte and Walkerville, and a general school district election with key registration deadlines in February. Aldermanic posts to be filled in Butte and Walkerville and two school trustees to be elected.
Cambridge, Mass. December 28 A psychologist described how to drink liquor and stay sober and how to obtain two separate jags from one round of drinks as incidental results of alcohol and coffee experiments at Cornell University. The study found alcohol and coffee have an antagonistic effect, canceling each other’s impact and leaving the drinker near the starting point. It also explains why coffee after a cocktail may aid digestion and why thirst for water appears.
Helena Dec 28 Approximately 2400 cases of fresh eggs will be purchased in Montana during January by the state relief commission for distribution to the needy. The federal government has allocated 14000 for this purpose. Purchases will be made in Missoula Butte Great Falls Billings Havre Miles City and possibly other places.
Washington December 28 Up highlights of President Roosevelts speech to the Woodrow Wilson foundation include denial of US membership in the League of Nations and a claim that wars are made by governments not peoples The speech argues for peace by peoples and criticizes the political leaders who push conflict while praising Woodrow Wilson for expanding popular understanding and constitutional government worldwide.
In Miami on December 28 Mrs. Frances Harrell and Miss Helen Richey set a new women’s air endurance record, flying 197 hours and five minutes before deciding to extend the attempt by at least 12 hours. Ten others remained aloft as the duo aimed to better their mark.
A Home Owners Loan Corporation report shows 100 loans totaling about 250000 in the district. Fifty loans were in Silver Bow county and 1650 applications have been filed. Most mortgagees will accept bonds instead of cash to stave off foreclosures. 700 more applications may be approved within 30 days.
