The French foreign office released a memorandum stating Paris will base policy at the January London naval disarmament talks on the League of Nations covenant. France insists the London meeting serves mainly as a precursor to a broader disarmament conference at Geneva.
William Hogue an 18 year old Anaconda youth pleaded guilty at a hearing in Deer Lodge to murder. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and rushed to the state penitentiary after midnight amid threats of mob violence from Victor residents. Sheriff J. Stokes with a Hamilton deputy escorted him. The fear of a mob grew as tensions rose in Victor following the Christmas morning murder of Albert Cowan.
A brief note reports light plane travel as the public focuses on dependence and conservation in the West.

Roundup, Dec. 26 Special A Delsanto coal miner died instantly when a truck he rode crashed into a bridge railing near Roundup. The driver George Bedar was found dead later near Klein with a gunshot wound thought suicide after remorse over the crash. His wife reported the missing revolver and sheriff teams searched the area. The body was located in a gully about a mile from Klein.
President Hoover defied precedent to honor Pascual Ortiz Rubio, the Mexican president-elect, at the Mexican embassy after a White House call. Ortiz Rubio arrived from Baltimore where he recovered at Johns Hopkins. Military honors were accorded him at Union Station and during his drive through Washington.
Soviet and American authorities coordinate a rescue effort for missing aviators Carl Ben Eielson and Earl Borland. Semyon Shestakov will command the expedition, with two aircraft at Bay Providence and a Stavropol dog team en route to locate the fliers off the Siberian coast.
Shelby Mont December 26 A farmer near Sunburst Fred Sonnemaker crawled two miles through darkness and snow after an overturned lumber load pinned him. He reached within 20 yards of his home before attracting his family's help. His condition was reported satisfactory at Kevin hospital.
W B Daly general manager of mines for Anaconda told the Butte Rotary club that 1930 would be a good year for copper production and consumption. He noted Butte mines reached a record production in the year ending and predicted prosperity for copper districts worldwide over the next twelve months.
The department of public works urges all districts planning special improvements to finalize district creation by the city council during winter to avoid weather delays. Districts include West Porphyry Street, petitioned in the fall and recently created, with a $350,000 program already adopted or in petition.

In d'Alene Idaho Sheriff R E Weniger testified in the prosecution of an Idaho rum ring conspiracy that over four years he made only six arrests for prohibition violations. He said one arrest in 1926, five in 1927, none in 1928, and none before August 1 this year.
In Lancaster County Pennsylvania a two story wagon shed hosting a card party and dance collapsed the second floor and roof trapping about 250 attendees. Two women and two men were severely hurt while nearly twenty others sustained minor injuries as guests frantically escaped.
A mother Mrs Frank Marcum and her infant son died after four days in bitter cold on Sharp's mountain ten miles from Huntsville. Minnie and Pearl Marcum and a seven year old sister survived by taking clothing from their mother to keep warm.
