Duggan Death Probed Amid Congressional Clash

Jessup Attacks Dutch Move Over Truce Break

Jessup accused the Dutch of failing to report alleged violations to the United Nations before renouncing the truce. He noted UN officials in Java received only one hour's notice of the assault, while Batavia authorities were warned the same night and soon arrested. An Indonesian spokesman called the attack a gecond Pearl Harbor and urged a cease fire and Dutch withdrawal. The UN good offices committee charged the Dutch with war plans while pretending peace, and warned of truce violations aboard the Renville. Washington halted Marshall Plan aid to the Netherlands East Indies pending settlement of hostilities.

The ECA clarified that suspending recovery grants to the Netherlands Far East does not cut homeland funds.
