Unique Christmas Sign Completed by Meaderville Fire Department

Meaderville Volunteer Fire Department completed its traditional Christmas billboard on the fire hall grounds at Meader wills 9 entrance, a 45 by 35 foot display crowned by a neon cross atop a church-like frame. The scene features Madonna and Child, a central manger, carolers, bells, and a “Twas the Night Before Christmas” theme with a Santa sleigh, while a Yeonard mine lantern and evergreen backdrop add festive color. The department celebrated with a children’s party and a dance, and credited Henry Leovil for directing artwork with active members list including Frank Gorsh and Vic Bugni among others.

Butte radio amateurs assisted in delivering relief to the snow bound town of Slibnite Idaho after landline links to Boise failed. Operators Al Beck and Jean Sleveland coordinated messages while Harry McFarland kept a generator powered station.

Butte Kiwanians meet Wednesday at the Finten hotel for a festive season program. The music committee leads selections of carols and Christmas tunes. A group of Latter-day Saints ladies will join as singers for the event.

Gold Hill Pupils Program Tonight at Lutheran Sunday School

The intermediate department of the Gold Hill Lutheran Sunday school presents its annual Christmas pageant and program at 8:30 Wednesday. Directed by superintendent Mrs. Dean Talley and a long list of staff, the event features solos, duets, recitals, songs, and a pageant titled The Christmas Star with students from grades two through eight performing under the listed leaders.

Masonic Christmas Party for Children Set Thursday Night

Members of six Masonic Blue lodges of Silver Bow county plan their annual Christmas party for children. The event starts at 8 o clock in the temple ballroom with entertainment, musical selections, dancing, color pictures, and a Christmas tree. Guardians must accompany the youngsters, gifts will be delivered by Santa Claus making a personal appearance.

Appraisers Named for Two Estates in Probate Matters

Probate matters in three estates filed in district court Tuesday. Judge T. EB. Downey appointed W. W. McCracken, W. H. Dobb and William C. G. McCracken as appraisers for the John W. Whiteley estate. Walter Ballard, Pat Downing and Lucille O’Leary named appraisers for Hugh Ferry estate. Inheritance tax from John Erickson estate determined at $69.46. Total appraised value of the Erickson estate listed as $1,637.

Tax Collections Register Gain in 1948 Real Estate Taxes

Silver Bow county reports $1,214,877.84 in initial 1948 real estate tax receipts, beating November 1947 by over $110,000. Delinquency deadline for the first installment is November 30. In person payments totaled $508,947.65 before that date, while mail receipts reached $625,990.19, and the November total last year was $1,104,082.19.

School Children Begin Christmas Vacation and Return Dates

Public and parochial school children start Christmas vacation Tuesday afternoon. Public school resumes Thursday afternoon and all classes will return Monday January 3. Former Butte resident Marcella Sennett dies in Duluth

Mrs. Marcella Sennett aged 86 longtime Butte resident died Thursday morning in Duluth Minnesota. She lived at 1547 Harrison Avenue in Butte and earlier settled in Marysville before moving to Butte in 1900. Survived by two sons Thomas Sennett and Arthur Sennett and daughters Mary Murray and Mrs Jack Thomas, plus sister Mary Mavarin. Funeral services and burial will be in Duluth.
