Swiss cities faced power outages and fires after foreign warplanes bombed Zurich on Sunday night. Civilians were buried beneath wreckage in several demolished houses as anti-aircraft guns blazed and air raid sirens wailed across Basle and Berne.
Greek troops skirted Chimara Albania and pressed toward Valona in fierce hand to hand fighting. Government spokesman said Chimara was under absolute Greek artillery control as front lines pushed steadily. Italian forces in Klisura Tepeleni region reportedly suffered heavy losses in a major Tad battle.
Big Bill Knudsen, newly appointed head of a top American defense agency, declares the crisis irreconcilable and stresses total defense for democratic principles to aid Britain quickly. He repeats the home and abroad impact of Axis and British warnings amid war tension.

Six members of a Georgia family from near Oglethorpe were killed and a seventh injured when their car collided with a truck and crashed through a railroad overpass railing, plunging 35 feet to the tracks below. The dead are C. P. Kiff, 40. Willie Bell Kiff, 39. Betty Kiff, 9. Jackie Kiff, 4. Walter C. Hornsby Jr., by, and Walter Hornsby Jr., 4 months old.
Dublin officials report four British airmen interned by Irish authorities after two bailed from a plane that crashed and two occupants of a training plane that forced landed near Dundalk on the east coast. The third man from the crashed plane was found alive suffering from exposure and given medical care.
Italy hails progress in Libya with artillery, combat planes, bombers, and at least one naval unit shelling British positions near the Mediterranean coast. A torpedo boat claims to have shot down a torpedo plane as both sides exchange fire, while Italian aircraft hit troop concentrations and dock installations despite bad weather.
Sen Thomas of Utah says Congress can avoid repealing the Johnson act to help Britain by negotiating with Britain to transfer western hemisphere assets or joint use of Asiatic bases. He maintains the neutrality act still blocks war loans while Britain remains belligerent, requiring congressional action.
