In a late session lawmakers approve a farm relief amendment and expand naval support. The agricultural measure gains unanimous approval while debate is shortened. The Senate also caps administrative costs for farm control programs and passes related funding.
The Senate unanimously approves a Barkley amendment to limit administrative costs for the new crop control program. Washington will cap in house costs at one percent and outside costs at two percent, with full expense publicity for county farmer committees. Debates over past spending led to the compromise. The chamber then keeps the existing acreage allocation method under the ever normal granary plan after a 47 to 19 vote.
The Dewey commission reports the Soviet trials were frame ups. Its panel, including some communists and longtime friends of the Russian revolution, calls the trials a manipulation of justice. Continued on Page 14.
Leroy Purvis of Great Falls and Charles Jelinik of Miles City were chosen by the Montana Rhodes scholarship committee to represent the state in the Northwest regional contest in Spokane. Purvis, a Missoula MSU law student, hopes to study jurisprudence at Oxford if selected. Jelinik, a senior at MSU Bozeman, studies chemistry. They will face 10 others from five states at the Davenport hotel on Monday. two will advance to the national committee for scholarships.
A city council introduced a new bus license ordinance replacing the earlier Dec 1 measure. If adopted it would set a $25 annual fee per bus for carriers such as the recently formed Butte City Lines Inc, lower than the prior $100. Debate centered on legality and whether a two thirds vote was needed. last night the minutes of December’s first meeting were approved recounting the Dec 1 vote 9 to 6 in favor of the $100 fee. The police committee also advised raising bond requirements on various offenses. Continued on Page 9.
Partly cloudy conditions persist in Montana on Thursday and Friday with minimal temperature change. No significant precipitation expected as winds remain light and daytime highs and overnight lows stay near seasonal norms.
Stillwater county officials move to carry out the court verdict sentencing Frank Robideau 47 alias Joseph L. Liberty to hang January 15 for the murder of Wheat Basin elevator operator Mike Kuntz. Undersheriff Jack Benjamin plans to deploy Montana's galloping gallows, the Silver Bow county device. A death watch will be set, though Robideau suggested the judge did right.

A medium sized man robbed the State Bank of Colon in Colon Nebraska of between 300 and 400 dollars this afternoon and escaped in a 1935 coach.
Montana Governor Roy E. Ayers urged President Roosevelt to extend the 77.57 cent per ounce price for newly mined domestic silver beyond December 31. He warned a drop to world levels around 45 cents could mean unemployment for about 3,500 Montanans. The price stems from a 1933 London agreement ratified by nations including Australia Canada Mexico Peru Spain and the United States. The pact requires annual silver purchases totaling 35,000,000 ounces from member mines for four years beginning 1934.
Helena dispatch reports State Deputy Game Warden Jack W. Carney and Montana fish and game commission chairman B. L. Price traveling to Catullo Idaho for a Western Hunters meeting on December 16 and 17 to discuss duck season dates.
Butte business leaders aim to raise 22000 for a chamber driven Better Business Builders campaign to promote local trade and economic stability. A. F. Rice will lead pre campaign efforts with an advance target of 15000, launching January 5 at a luncheon. Meetings with 20 promotors follow January 7 10 12 and 14 at the Chamber of Commerce.
Heads Business Builders has enrolled more than 38,000 since its founding. The program notes substantial member entry and ongoing expansion as it continues to attract new participants across its network.

Five persons were killed in Morton Mississippi when their car was hit by a Yazoo and Mississippi Valley train late today. The victims include Junius Sigrest 25 his wife 26 their 5 year old daughter Helen Mrs Mark Twain Sigrest 27 and Frank Sessums 60.
