Russian forces reach Norwegian frontier in Salmijaervi raid

Soviet troops led by whippet tanks crossed into Salmijaervi at the Norway Finland border tonight leaving a city in ruins. Fires from Finnish retreating torches and dynamite destroyed blocks as the front line spread along the extreme north border.

Whitehall dedicates new Masonic temple in grand ceremony

In Whitehall, over 200 Masons from 20 communities attended the dedication of the new $10,000 Masonic temple in Madison Hall. Mystic Tie lodge No 17 and Riverside lodge No 111 from Jefferson Island were installed in a joint ceremony, followed by a banquet with a program.

League of Nations Expels Russia and Aids Finland

The League of Nations voted to expel Russia for its attack on Finland and to provide all possible aid to Finland. Russia denounced the move, warning it would worsen Soviet relations with Britain and France as Soviet officials noted the Finns fight a desperate defense against the Red Army.

Wallace Wheeler push wheat subsidy plan at Farm Union meet

Secretary of Agriculture Wallace and Senator Wheeler spoke at a Farmers Union convention in St. Paul, urging a certificate based financing for wheat growers to assure fair income. Yugoslav Freighter Vidovdan Reported Aground Near Borneo

Distress signals picked up by U P R C A and Globe wireless say the Yugoslavian freighter Vidovdan is aground near Pulo Laut island in the South China Sea off Borneo. The 422 foot, 5 581 ton ship from Braunfels was en route from Japan to Sourabaya, built in 1906.
