Soviet troops led by whippet tanks crossed into Salmijaervi at the Norway Finland border tonight leaving a city in ruins. Fires from Finnish retreating torches and dynamite destroyed blocks as the front line spread along the extreme north border.
In Whitehall, over 200 Masons from 20 communities attended the dedication of the new $10,000 Masonic temple in Madison Hall. Mystic Tie lodge No 17 and Riverside lodge No 111 from Jefferson Island were installed in a joint ceremony, followed by a banquet with a program.
The League of Nations voted to expel Russia for its attack on Finland and to provide all possible aid to Finland. Russia denounced the move, warning it would worsen Soviet relations with Britain and France as Soviet officials noted the Finns fight a desperate defense against the Red Army.
Secretary of Agriculture Wallace and Senator Wheeler spoke at a Farmers Union convention in St. Paul, urging a certificate based financing for wheat growers to assure fair income. They called for permanent federal farm program funding without repeated Congress approvals and said certificates would mimic the old processing tax in a simpler form.

Collected food goes to the Salvation Army for Christmas baskets for 400 needy families.
