AP survey of 36 freshmen from the 93rd Congress finds most favor military escalation if needed to win the Vietnam war but prefer cutting domestic spending over tax increases. They largely oppose new civil rights legislation, with a minority open to considering proposals.
Survivors and relatives gather in Hawaii for the 25th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. About 3,000 participate in ceremonies at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and a Pearl Harbor service honors the 2,409 military deaths from that Sunday morning. Pvt Frank Frucci, Pfc Gabriel Christie, and Sgt Bernard Tortora reflect on the day and its lasting impact.

A coroner's jury found the November 25 death of Leon Bailey of Billings at the hands of L A Maddox in the Maddox home was justifiable homicide. Maddox testified Bailey threatened him and forced entry then attacked him during a struggle.
A rifle attack in Anaconda left John Louis Decrevel dead and Janet Nielson injured. The incident occurred at 513 East Sixth Street, with a neighbor describing the shock of the scene and the injured woman being taken to St Ann Hospital in Anaconda.

Engineers affected threaten claims potentially totaling thousands, prompting Holman to seek county attorney guidance before proceeding.
A blast at a gravel pit beside Meaderville toppled Montana Power lines, blacking Butte television from KXLF and cutting power to Elk Park for six hours. The 69 000 volt and 12 000 volt lines were downed. ten men repaired the conductors and service was restored late Tuesday. No injuries were reported.
