Finnish forces report stubborn defense in the Arctic, repulsing Soviet assaults and claiming a shot down bombing plane. Reports say airmen used incendiaries to destroy 60 Soviet planes at Murmansk airfield, while 200 Soviet troops were surrounded. confirmation uncertain.
Foreign Secretary Lord Halifax told the Lords the Russian attack was universally condemned as an inexcusable act of aggression and tied to the German-Russian pact of August 23. He warned that peace on any terms would not avert growing perils from German policy.
Mad Winnie Ruth Judd, the 1931 slayer known for disappearances, again vanished from the state hospital for the insane. She had been free 48 hours as deputies and highway patrols chased leads across Phoenix, with tips failing to pin down her whereabouts.

Norway issued a call for a Scandinavian conference in Oslo to discuss peaceful settlement of the Finnish Russian war and to assess the region’s alarming situation. Foreign Minister Halvdan Koht invited Sweden and Denmark to meet in Oslo on Thursday.

Charles W. Rank aged 75 longtime Montana pharmacist and owner of the Treasure state’s oldest drugstore died at his Virginia City home. He arrived in Montana in 1883 worked in Bozeman then Virginia City where he managed stores and later owned Barber’s drugstore sole owner since 1919. He was born August 11 1864 in Butler Indiana. Secretary Hull pressed for the reciprocal trade program before the American Farm Bureau Federation, calling critics narrow minded and warning abandonment would hinder world recovery. He rebutted claims that 795 million dollars in agricultural imports in the first nine months harmed American farmers and urged attention to international implications.

Kolhase of Miles City will take over Sorenson’s Trans Missou ri post, as Hervin returns to Miles City and James O Dore moves to Lewistown.
