A House majority pushed the wage hour bill toward passage and defeated a bid to investigate its securing. The bill, backed by the Senate version and the President, would set minimum wages and maximum hours via a five member board, though strong support exists for a single Labor Department administrator.
Diplomatic tone remains vague yet cheerful after M Chautemps visit to London as Viscount Halifax’s Bechtes garden trip signals tensions. The Halifax mission raised fears it could shift power away from Paris and threaten Czechoslovakia and Austria in the pursuit of peace with Germany.
A coroner's jury heard testimony that Bugs Moran threatened labor leader Patrick Corcoran about a year before Corcoran's death. Milk wagon driver Frank Dorrance described Moran seizing Corcoran at the Labor temple and threatening to "take him for a ride" if he continued organizing milk and ice cream drivers. Washington December 2 President William Green of the AFL and John L Lewis head of the CIO met face to face but failed to reach a truce in the internal labor war. They planned to resume talks at 8 p m tomorrow. Both said no conclusions were reached and the dual unionism issue remained the main hurdle to peace.
The Montana water conservation board approved extending the Flint Creek canal eight to ten miles at the Flint Creek storage project, costing about 3000 dollars. Gov. President Roosevelt, vacationing aboard the yacht Potomac, spent a third day at the Dry Tortugas fishing paradise about 300 miles southwest of Miami, as the Miami area dispatch notes the famed spot attracting the president.
