President Truman sought a massive 17.85 billion outlay to win in Korea and brace for attacks elsewhere. He announced a new February draft call of 50 thousand, raising total draftees to 300 thousand since September, as Allied leaders prepared for talks in Washington amid the growing Asia crisis.

New York December 1. India's Sir Benegal N. Rau met Friday with Wu Hsiu chuan Chinese Communist representative to the United Nations in a first conciliatory touch over the Korean crisis. Rau voiced hope for a peaceful settlement and planned to see Wu again before Monday.
The Montana highway commission let 12 road and bridge projects plus a shop and gravel stockpile totaling 1,561,390. Keily Construction of Butte won the largest 5.02 mile Virginia City Ennis road project for 401,983. Other bidders included S Birch and Sons, W P Roscoe, F and S Contracting, Albert Lalonde, Hilde Construction, and Home Construction with various grades, drains, surfaces, bridges, and stockpiling across multiple counties.
Prime Minister Attlee plans to urge President Truman to avoid war with Communist China and seek unity with the West. He will meet with Rene Pleven in Paris and may secure Paris support for a moderate Korea policy, while debating Red China’s U.N. admission.
Missoula dispatch reports Jess William Rhoads 59 of Alberton died Friday when a caterpillar tractor overturned while he attached a log on Printers Creek west of Missoula. He moved to Alberton five years ago and is survived by a large family.

Andrew Wurtz 23 of Chateau refused to submit to induction under the 1948 Selective Service Act. He signed a statement of refusal and was arrested by FBI agents. During a Knowland address in Butte on Friday night Communist literature circulated, criticizing appeasement and urging policies such as withdrawing foreign troops from Korea and peaceful competition between capitalism and Communism. The mimeographed sheets claimed U.S. policy harmed China and supported Chiang Kai-shek, are attributed to the Communist Party of Montana.
