Major MacReady Injured In National Air Races Crash
Major John A. MacReady, famed air pilot, was seriously injured when his plane crashed during the free-for-all speed event at the national air races near Chicago. Witnesses said a wing strut folded during the first lap at about 162 mph, the craft flipped, then landed upright before demolition on rebound. He was rushed to Evans ton hospital with fractures to the shoulder nose and body bruises. X rays planned to check for internal injuries. MacReady, who with Lt Oakley Kelly made the first nonstop transcontinental flight in 1923, had resigned from the army two years earlier.

Woman killed husband injured in Montana car crash
In Lewistown Montana on August 30 Mrs C L Metcalf died from a skull fracture after an auto crash on the Grass Range Billings road. Her husband a state manager for a sewing machine company suffered a broken back and pelvis but had a chance to recover. Reports say their car collided with one of three cars in a line east of Grass Range. the other driver fled the scene after the Metcalfs were thrown into a ditch.

Prominent Butte Man Dies in Rochester Hospital
John J. Canty 32, a well known Butte and Western Montana figure, died in Rochester Minnesota yesterday after two years illness. Son of Mr and Mrs John A Canty of Butte he had lived in Missoula and worked as Armour & Company representative traveling the western district. Canty was a Central High School graduate and married Catherine Naughton of Butte before moving to Missoula. He gained wide business ties across the region.

Four Injured in Auto Crashes Near Butte
Four persons were injured in automobile accidents on roads near Butte last night. Peter Kroski of Granite Street was unconscious after his car left the Woodville highway and rolled down an embankment. He was rushed to St James with serious wounds but expected to live.
