The Washington civil rights march drew varied reactions across the Iron Curtain. Peking’s New China News Agency released a 300 word report based on foreign press, claiming 10 000 troops faced demonstrators and warning of Kennedy administration security measures.
Rescuers racing to reach trapped miner Louis Bova faced a new hurdle as a water deposit filled a 12 inch shaft and a nearby 6 inch channel. Depth unknown, light rain fell as Bova and two others remained entombed since August 13. Rescue attempts continue through four boreholes despite the obstacle.
Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Craig Cornell are set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Brundage Funeral Home under Latter-day Saints guidance. The Dill on couple died in a plane crash 35 miles southeast near Little Elk Creek while dropping supplies to a sheep herder. Federal investigators led by Lee Merrill of Helena probe the cause as Purcell reports a buckled wing at about 400 feet. Cornell, born May 27 1938 in Dillon, studied at Beaverhead County High School Dartmouth MSU and Western MT College. Mrs Cornell Theodore Teddy Rouse born April 24 1943 in Dillon was Benton City Wash graduate.
Three empty life rafts and a helmet bearing the name Gardner were found bobbing in the Atlantic between Nassau and Bermuda. A yellow exposure suit and aircraft panels were recovered as S.S. Azalea City ferries debris to port. The Air Force continued a major hunt with 50 planes and 36 ships overnight.
