Fire damages three story home in Granite Street blaze

Dr J T Murray's home at 401 West Granite Street was badly damaged yesterday afternoon by a roof blaze likely from faulty attic wiring. The brick house with 18 rooms lost part of its roof. water and flames caused most damage. Neighbors moved out belongings of the Murrays and the Taylors. Estimated loss $2,500, insured. large crowd observed the scene as firefighters contained the blaze.

Montanan Freed After Apology In Arson Case

Bert Shields of Troy Montana, a lumberman, was arrested last night on an arson charge but released with apology today. Officials said the arrest followed a request from Troy officers. County Attorney Libby said there is no charge against Shields. Shields surrendered after learning he was wanted.

Two Seattle climbers die in blizzard on Mount Shuksan

Seattle librarian Miss Thelma Martin and an unnamed man died today in a blizzard while climbing Mount Shuksan near Mount Baker Washington. Nine Seattle mountaineers had left Tuesday for the expedition and a search team from Bellingham was sent out. Return of the bodies was not expected before Wednesday due to the distance and rugged terrain.

Farm Board Extends Help to Cotton Growers

Washington August 19. The Farm Board announced plans to advance funds to cotton farmers in distress. The board will cover 25 percent of crop value, 65 percent via the Federal Intermediate Credit Banks, and 10 percent from cooperative capital reserves. Expected marketing sums range from 5 to 10 million dollars this year, subject to cooperative needs, with advances on cotton hedged in the futures market.
