A deputy, another officer, and a contractor were wounded as a crowd of about 3,000 surrounded the house. Clark was shot dead as he exited the home, his body riddled with bullets. American rifle aided Allied victory on Western Front
In a front dispatch from London dated October 11 the rifle described as an essentially American weapon by General Pershing was credited with aiding the Allies in the Flanders fighting. Frontline reports note heavy rain halted scale infantry attacks while French and British forces repelled German assaults near Paschendaele and Aisne. The Sofia war office claimed British losses at Doiran were heavy as Bulgarians held trenches south of the lake. In a separate incident in North Carolina a money robbery occurred ending with the capture and return of $120. A new Russian coalition government has taken power, replacing the Council of Five.
