Destroyer Torpedoed Man Aboard Submerged Vessel

An American destroyer on patrol in the war zone was torpedoed yesterday with one crewman killed and five wounded. The ship reached port despite severe damage. Vice Admiral Sims reported few details, noting no fight and the U-boat's likely escape. The fallen is Gunner's Mate Osmond Kelly Ingram of Pratt City Alabama. Wounded include Herman H. Pankratzy, William Merritt, Frank W. Kruse, Patrick Rutledge Oller, and William Selmer. additional names connected to relatives in Norfolk and Dundes Minnesota.

Will Let Monroe Have the Fair Some Time

Thos. Lee of Monroe says he plans to attend the Marshville fair and believes Monroe should host it. He acknowledges Marshville borrowed the county fair and notes Monroe could reclaim it only if its exhibits improve. Lee fears Monroe may not regain the fair soon due to Marshville’s stronger farming displays.
