Widow’s Will From 1734 Noted In Stirewalt Research
In Rowan County court records, the 1734 will of an ancestor provisions the widow with five gallons of whiskey yearly, fruit from fence row trees, flour, beef, clothing, and other comforts. The son must supply these goods, or risk losing inherited property. The piece ponders modern readers’ views on such support.
