Tax reform talk targets land valuation in Union County
The Union County tax assessors are criticized for valuing farm property at near full value. The piece argues land should be taxed lightly to encourage production, suggesting land should be assessed at thirteen dollars per acre for parity with improvements. It asserts current methods tax livestock and tools heavily and calls for shifts to curb land speculation and aid farmers, with emphasis on equity between land and improvements.
