Border crisis fears in Brownsville as Villa attack stalls

The Matamoros assault faltered after Villa forces failed to dislodge the Carranza garrison. Artillery poised on the Mexican side threatened Brownsville across the Rio Grande while reports tallied 100 killed and 40 wounded among Villa troops with two Brownsville injuries. Carranza and Villa reinforcements moved in as U.S. officials warned of potential cross-border fire and prepared defenses along the border.

Girl Burned While Standing Before Fire in Monroe

Eight year old Bertie Morgan suffered severe burns to her back when a child nearby spilled fuel and the flame caught her clothing. The accident occurred Saturday at Mr. Parris' home in North Monroe as the youngsters returned from uptown and stood by the fire awaiting warmth.

Boovock Case: Trust Official Reports Books In Order

Henry Cochran of Astor Trust Company released a statement saying an inspection of the books shows them in order after the murder of Boovock and his wife last night. George B. K. Chase, a lawyer who drafted Boovock’s will, noted Boovock believed he would die on his feet from cancer, a delusion clinicians said was unfounded.
