Preacher Kills Man in Memphis Home Defense
Rev. R. F. Kirkpatrick of Memphis shot a man trying to break into his home at midnight. The coroner’s jury exonerated the minister, saying the negro was entering the house in a forceful manner. Kirkpatrick said he fired to protect his home and had never fired a pistol before. The shooting occurred at 104 Sixth Street near Greenlaw, with police arriving as the assailant fell. The preacher’s family and community note support for his actions.
