At a congressional session President Wilson continued his address as a suffrage banner was dropped from the gallery. The banner asked what Wilson would do for woman suffrage. Guards removed the bannerless protesters and no further incidents occurred.
German and Austrian forces claim Bucharest, the Romanian capital, as the Central Powers press a vast advance across about 50,000 square miles of Romanian territory. Ploiești falls, giving the invaders the western railhead to Jassy, while Belgrade, Brussels, and Cetinje remain under Entente control.
Monroe correspondent reports Alma Price visiting Corinth and a newborn daughter for Mr and Mrs Kern Price. Oak Grove meeting draws locals while two correspondents quarrel over the President. Small town chatter covers visits by Mina Emma Richardson and Fallie Whitaker, plus a marriage request scene from Grit.
Waxhaw Enterprise reports a large gathering at Mr and Mrs A J Blythes home for Thanksgiving despite bad weather. All children attended except Mrs Will Robinson of Taxahaw. Morning included games music and conversation leading to a long lawn dinner with baskets of food. Rev K W Hogan gave the blessing and the day ended with satisfaction and longing for next year.
A Bennettsville woman bit into an apple from a local store and found an eight inch dead snake inside. Dr Stanes reassured her there was no poison. The snake died after exposure to air and was discarded in a yard. The woman joked she may bite more apples.
Spencer reports that Britain authorizes a hospital for live stock bought in America and bound for foreign use. A large facility with 46 by 100 feet hospital and four animal parlors is under construction by the Southern Railway at Britain's request. Britain aims to handle thousands of horses and mules weekly from Western states, with about 750,000 horses and mules bought in the past year. The plan focuses on treatment of diseased or injured animals before sea voyage, reducing transport costs.
At a Lynn Massachusetts conference of shoe manufacturers and retailers, leather prices rose sharply and a Congressional inquiry into the shortage was urged. Albert M. Creighton warned end of war or embargo may ease costs, while many local notices and engagements are noted across Marshville and Pageland communities.
The community Thanksgiving at Mr. L. M. Riner home Town View Farm drew about 200 neighbors. Magie Sims provided organ music while Dr. G. H. Burgess read scripture and Mr. Jus. H. Godfrey led prayer. Cy Tillman of Waxhaw bids farewell to his pack of fine toy hounds and ships them to Franklin Virginia. He notes local forests are cleared and fox hunting has declined, making the chase uneconomical. Seven fine hounds were loaded for transport while Tillman worries if he will ever own such dogs again.
Anson Union reports the marriage of Lester Griffin son of A. Griffin of Union County and Ja Dawkins daughter of Mes Dawkins of White Store township. The ceremony occurred Sunday at the residence of Registrar W Jones in White Store township. The couple are popular youths with many friends in the area.
A letter from H D Stewart describes a needy family at 304 Lane Street with a sick boy requiring a quart of milk and a quart of buttermilk daily and to be kept warm. A donation of twenty five cents a day would greatly aid the child's health and life. It asks readers to help by locating and assisting such cases.
