Young Syrian Bride Widowed After Titanic Sinking
The Baltimore Sun reports Mia Celary Alexander, 14, the youngest of about two dozen Syrian brides, widowed when the Titanic sank. Her husband, who had prospered in Wilkesbarre, left for Syria for a wife and sailed with 142 Syrians. 125 drowned, 29 survived on Carpathia. The couple lost $750 cash and $1,200 in jewelry.
