Hodge of Geneva Alabama is jailed on charges as the admitted ringleader in a failed prison escape plot. He was captured near the L A N depot after confessing to the breakout plan and is held in confinement while authorities investigate the alleged delivery attempt and escape route.
Jathe P Smith 27 of Grand Island Nebraska is held by New Orleans police on a dangerous character charge. He has hired attorney C W Tompkins and seeks extradition papers. His wife Estelle 19 from Williams West Virginia is also held on the same charge. They say they landed in Mobile stranded after visiting New Orleans and gambling resorts.
Members from both branches of the Army of the Republic gather in Des Moines for an annual conference. Two new executive officers are named during the week long meeting.
