Citizens of Goodwater Alabama react to reports that Alabama Power may obtain more than a million dollar tax reduction in Coosa County. A mass meeting demands an injunction against ad valorem tax cuts and vows prompt action.
A United Fruit Company steamer named Sinaloa will depart Mobile at 1 PM carrying a boatload of foodstuffs to storm victims in Belize. Contributions funded by Mobile residents include M. Forcheimer Grocery, Merchants National Bank, Pollock Dry Goods, H. M. Hempstead Lumber, American National Bank, First National, Frederick I. Thompson, The Mobile Register publisher, Mobile Gas, and M y company.
Moyle and Allen supporters deny flight hoax rumors as fliers recount a 34 hour storm ordeal over the Aleutians. They reportedly landed on an uninhabited island then made for Miano Pagino near Siberia after a forced air landing while a vessel provided fuel. John Buffelen of Tacoma comments.
The Oak Hills Golf course locker room on Springhill avenue near Indiana avenue was burglarized Thursday and nine golf balls stolen. Harold Schermer, 19, held to $300 bond on burglary charges. evidence linked him to a break in at the Boys' Industrial school. Sam Mixon sentenced to 30 days hard labor for theft from Grant's department store. Dave Howard jailed 30 days hard labor for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
L Sanderson Crichton admitted stealing gasoline from George Sheffield near Broad and St Anthony early Friday. Recorder D H Edington sentenced him to 60 days hard labor. Detectives Pearson White and Arras helped arrest him.
The Buccaneer fish class skip will compete Sunday afternoon in the final of a three race series for the Cartman trophies. Helms include Jack Black Pfleger and Howard Peters as eager crews chase club supremacy.
The Mobile and Ohio Railroad and the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks announce a five day work week with five and a half days pay beginning October 1 1931 and lasting through March 31 1932. The agreement, reached by mutual consent, aims to reduce hours while maintaining current pay.
A dated September 15 letter from Commissioner Hartwell to Mr. Taylor reflects reconciliation after a partisan clash. Taylor replies on Wednesday, noting unlikely broad political agreement but an amicable personal relationship and mutual good wishes despite prior differences.
The Loyal Order of Moose will relocate from 101 North Royal Street to 106-108 North Royal Street around October 5. The new building features a 3,000 seat auditorium and a 20 by 30 foot stage at the east end, announced by John H. Crabtree, director.

In Austin on September 18 the Texas senate approved a bill to limit cotton plantings for the current season. The house’s measure claims it would reduce cotton output further, though the senate bill seeks to restrict plantings.

Judge Oakes resigned to the governor after a hit and run incident in Milton September 13. He had adjourned court and declared a mistrial after a conference with Assistant Attorney General Lorimer. Police said he was intoxicated and resisted at the Milton station. Governor Winant accepted the resignation, praising equal treatment before the law.
Angelo Puckett, county license officer, prepared Friday to docket a large group of delinquent license payers. Citations for service cover city and county establishments. Those owing face immediate payment or be listed for delinquency. Puckett notes the list has been reduced but several firms still owe fees.
The Azalea Trail committee of the Junior Chamber of Commerce will meet Friday to discuss the coming season. They will urge planting more bushes along the trail this fall and talk about advertising the next blooming season. Shelton Lord is chairman.
Mobile Chapter of the Auburn Alumni Association will hold a meeting Friday night at 7 o clock in Parlor C of the Battle House. The announcement invited members to attend.
Three men were shot to death and a fourth wounded near Atlanta Texas as a kidnapper victim was attacked. The report notes Sullivan, brother of Harry Sullivan, as connected to the incident. Further details are continued on page 8.
Huntington N Y September 18 Coroner William Gibson adjourned the inquest into the death of Benjamin Collings at the request of District Attorney Alexander Blue. The hearing will resume at 1 60 o clock in the morning a week from today to allow more time for investigation and to permit Mrs Collings to testify if she is able.
Bond for Elisha Kent Kane, University of Tennessee professor, charged with drowning his wife, was set at 16000 in Hampton Virginia circuit court by Judge C Vernon Spratley. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for September 23 before Justice J E Dixon as defense plans to post a surety bond tomorrow.
One person died and several were seriously injured when lightning struck a tent housing a fish fry in Fayette County near Washington Court House. Willard Ater, caretaker of the chapel, was killed instantly. others were burned or paralyzed, with 45 stunned. The event occurred amid heavy rain causing floods and damage to roads including state route 70 between Washington Court House and Canfield.
