A 13-year-old nurse Bessie Hill was arrested in Atlanta after admitting she mixed carbolic acid into patent medicine given to a seven month old infant, allegedly to avoid work. Police report she aimed to kill the child, then was turned over to juvenile court on a charge of assault with intent to murder.
A severe electrical storm in Montreal injured two women and a boy and killed a truck driver who leaped from his vehicle. Debris damaged roofs, trees, power lines, and St Lambert's Country Club. Mount Royal race track stalls blew down and harbor damage occurred.
Rogers Hornsby may take the Chicago Cubs managerial post next season. William Wrigley Jr. was reported to offer a tempting deal and to pay near 50 000 to acquire two players from Frank O'Doul's Lake club, the Coast League star batter.

New Orleans police chief says five men who robbed the St Bernard Country Club near New Orleans are en route to Chicago by car. The posse reports the gang armed with rifles sawed-off shotguns and two machine guns and driven by a Negro. The robbery ended with captives held for two hours and a later escape with loot.
The Commerce Department reports raw cotton exports totalled 8,205,000 bales for the year ending June 30, up nearly 3,000,000 from 1923–24 and within 209,000 of the prewar average. Europe absorbed 2,139,000 bales with heavy UK and Germany shipments. UK 928,000 and Japan 261,000 boosted totals. Russia’s purchases more than doubled as Europe’s share of exports fell from 95 to about 84 percent.
French forces advancing from Terveurcal and Tafrant captured Amyot, capital of Beni Zeroual territory, as Paris reports a rapid whirlwind campaign against the Rif tribes. Judge Edington stated Rankin had too much liquor for the holiday.
Lieutenant William N. LeGear announced plans to install more aerial traffic signs at principal street intersections. The signs, mounted on overhead supports, have won approval from pedestrians and drivers who view them as satisfactory.
Rome reports Captain Roald Amundsen plans a bold airship expedition to reach the North Pole from Spitzbergen. Italian dirigible Number One, acquired by Amundsen, will carry eighteen explorers under Colonel Nobili and Dietrichsen to endure extreme cold.
