Washington reports reveal a suspected nationwide I W W plot to cripple war efforts. Draft opposition wheat field fires labor disturbances and anti war propaganda are linked to a Chicago rooted conspiracy. Grand jury probes expansion into many regions with funding suspected from a German source.
A five foot street sign reading Street Closed hangs by ropes across Church Street near Royal on the south side of the inferior criminal court room. Judge Chamberlain ordered the sign after complaints that a rope across the street blocked traffic during court sessions. Mayor Harry Pillans and other citizens walked into the rope. one man faced contempt warnings from the clerk as the court claimed full street jurisdiction during sessions.
Max Savelie, chairman of the committee on house delegates for the Older Boys' Conference, announced Friday that arrangements for placing the boys attending the State convention in Mobile on October 5 6 and 7 were progressing favorably. The convention will bring about 400 boys to the city with representative delegates from several Older Boys' Councils.
A tropical disturbance of moderate intensity is apparently over the extreme eastern Caribbean the Weather Bureau announced. Its description has not yet been ascertained and the local bureau had received no advice from Washington about the storm up to early afternoon.
M D Peterman station agent for Mobile and Bay Shore at Prichard disappeared Labor Day and was traced to Bessemer where he took a foundry job. He will not return to Mobile. Parents and friends expressed relief at the discovery.
W R Brown of Summit Emanuel county was held for the federal grand jury under a 2500 bond for an alleged attempt to bribe Dr D D Smith of the Emanuel county military exemption board Brown reportedly offered 500 to declare his son physically unfit for military service Smith alerted the sheriff during the hearing and Brown’s arrest followed in Savannah Ga on September 7
With all wards and precincts counted except one, Pierce’s box, the unofficial city county majority for the two mill school tax is 241. The Dauphin Island box showed unanimous support with six ballots. Countywide, the total majority was 142 with 334 total votes 195 against.
Oliver G. Lartigue, Mobile County draft soldier, will depart Friday evening by Mobile and Ohio Railroad for Camp Pike Arkansas to train for front service in the new National Army. He is the fourth man sent from the county to the Arkansas training camp. Two others left Thursday evening, Harry A. Sweetser and Elmer Snyder Pugh. One more man is needed to reach the 5 percent quota, with Thomas Broadus or Thomas Jefferson Larrimore as likely choice tomorrow evening.
Edgar Steadham, a farmer living on St Stephens Road near Bear Fork seven miles from the city, was arrested Friday morning by Deputy Sheriff A Z Oberhaus for violating the cattle tick eradication law. The warrant says Steadham failed to dip his cattle as required by state sanitary laws.

German air raid on American hospitals in a coastal village killed one U S Medical Corps officer and wounded three others badly. Two enlisted men died and sixteen were injured, five of them Americans, according to Reuter’s telegraph from British forces in France.
Edith Wright two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Edgar Wright of Creola Alabama was seriously injured when struck by a northbound Southern Railway passenger train near Creola late yesterday afternoon. The engineer said he saw her on the tracks and could not stop in time though the train struck her. Bystanders carried her to a Mobile infirmary where serious head cuts were found and she rests today with a chance for recovery.
Horace Turner of Mobi lan reportedly saved Hank a sailor aboard the Norwegian bark Doon by disarming James McKenzie who "snapped" a revolver in Turner's face. Turner held McKenzie until police arrived. McKenzie was docketed at police headquarters after the incident started over an accusation of opening mail.
Nearly 4,000 packing house workers in Kansas City area plants idle after a wholesale strike at the Cudahy plant.
