Funeral Services for Mrs Shelma Wooten to Be Held Thursday
Funeral services are set for 10:30 AM Thursday for Mrs Thelma Wooten a 24 year old Mobile mother who died after a car was fired upon by deputies. The case spurred a Mobile county grand jury investigation with preliminary hearings for C C Lane and T H Sullivan two special sheriff's deputies charged with murder. The assailants fired on the automobile believed to contain liquor en route to Magnolia Point. Mrs Wooten left a two and a half year old child. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.

Stickney to Leave National Guard Instructorship
Captain Louis S. Stickney, long time National Guard instructor at Canton, is ordered to Army duty and will report to Fort Sam Houston Texas on November 1. Captain L. Strike will take over as local guard instructor with headquarters moved to Canton North Carolina. Sergeant C. P. Erickson remains at the local office and Stickney plans a two month leave prior to his departure, largely spent in Decatur with in laws.

Negro Wounded Woman Held After Shooting in Gambling Row
Meepa Gooden, a Black woman, was wounded in the hip and taken to City hospital at 11:30 AM Wednesday after a gambling dispute. Dan Baldwin alleged the altercation involved a Black man in a house on South Am street between Eslava and M streets. Lula Baldwin, a Black woman, was arrested on a general charge in connection with the shooting.

Waives to Jury in Prohibition Case in Inferior Court

Bishop Toolen Injured in Baltimore Auto Accident
The Mobile bishop T J Toolen suffered severe cuts to head and face when the car he rode in in Baltimore was struck and overturned. He was visiting his brother Rev William Toolen and is not believed seriously hurt. A summons was issued for Toolen on reckless driving and for the other driver Ercher Schmal for failure to yield.

Port Benefit Stenin Rates On Garge Line
A full line of commodity rates from Mobile to territory west of the Mississippi will be established as soon as possible by the Mississippi Warrior Barge Line. Mobile will gain a similar relation to New Orleans as New Orleans has to Mobile for southeast traffic. A. F. Carlisle of Crichton was fined 51 and costs of 30 days for assault and battery and abusive language after a fight at A. Algirio's cafe in St. Louis and Lawrence streets. Senator Joyce Murder Shocked City
In Chicago an inquest into the death of State Senator John P. Joyce found he was killed by a powerful acid. Dr Clarence Hujsberger of the Northwestern crime detection bureau testified the poison was in the stomach. Joyce died nearly a month after testifying before the grand jury on an alleged election in the 42nd ward. He was murdered.
